Senior Shia cleric discusses four key axes for achieving Muslim world cooperation

The Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought emphasized communication’s role in Muslim unity. He outlined cooperation between four major Islamic entities, including Iran, Al-Azhar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey-Qatar.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought emphasized the crucial role of communication in the Muslim world. He detailed the cooperation of four key entities necessary for achieving a unified Islamic nation.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Hamid Shahriari made these remarks during a webinar hosted by the Islamic Unity Center, titled “Role of Communications and Media in Muslim World Unity.” He highlighted the essential foundations for establishing a new Islamic civilization and fostering unity among Islamic countries.

He identified the resistance axis, established by the Islamic Republic of Iran shortly after the 1979 revolution, as the first side of this structure. He stated that this axis has stood against arrogant powers that have destabilized the region for decades, disintegrating nations such as India, Iran, and the Ottoman Empire. He also warned that these powers continue to promote division and hypocrisy.

The second key entity he highlighted was Al-Azhar University, which promotes intra-Islamic dialogue between Shia and Sunni communities. As an institution in Egypt, Al-Azhar plays a crucial role in strengthening fraternal ties among various Islamic denominations.

As the third side, Shahriari pointed to Saudi Arabia, which has sought regional peace through economic megaprojects such as Neom. He noted that Saudi Arabia has hosted two sessions of the Islamic conference “Building Bridges Between Islamic Schools of Thought,” an initiative parallel to Iran’s annual Islamic Unity Conference.

The fourth entity in this structure is the Turkish-Qatari axis, which is primarily supported by the Brotherhood. According to Shahriari, this axis remains somewhat separate from the other three.

The Secretary General stressed Iran’s need for cooperation with the three other entities to strengthen unity within the Muslim world. He also quoted the Leader of the Islamic Republic, stating that a new Islamic civilization cannot be achieved without collaboration between Shia and Sunni communities and broader engagement across the Muslim world.
